Abstract

The comments made by Professor Cox (previous article), while not entirely germane to the main thrust of my article, raise a number of points which it might be instructive to examine. The Army, of course, has an arborescent inventory system. The model briefly described in my article is used by the National Inventory Control Points (NICP's) for management of “wholesale” stocks; it is a single-echelon model dealing only with demands coming into the NICP's from their customers.
