A Comprehensive Review on Sustainable Natural Fiber Reinforced Composite

Abstract

The mounting pressure on industries to curtail their dependence on fossil-derived raw materials has channelled significant research attention toward composites that incorporate plant-sourced reinforcements. The increasing global emphasis on environmental sustainability, coupled with rising social concerns, stricter waste management legislation and evolving environmental regulations, has intensified the search for sustainable materials. Despite ongoing commitments to corporate social responsibility, industries continue to rely heavily on non-renewable resources. This contradiction has further accelerated interest in the development of eco-friendly composites and green materials that are environmentally compatible. Fibers harvested from sources like jute, flax, hemp, sisal, kenaf, bamboo, and coir present an appealing combination of low weight, adequate stiffness, widespread availability and ecological compatibility that makes them credible alternatives to synthetic reinforcements for many engineering purposes across a wide range of applications, including automotive components, sporting goods, aerospace structures, consumer products, marine and oil industry uses. The aim of this article is to present a brief review of the most suitable and commonly used natural fibres reinforcements in eco-composites. As Continued collaboration between material scientists, engineers and policymakers remains essential to bridge the remaining gap between laboratory findings and widespread commercial adoption.
