Abstract

The textile industry utilizes huge amount of synthetic dye in dying process. It generates colored waste water responsible for water pollution. The reactive ruby red is a frequently used reactive dye from textile industry in Solapur, India. The aim of this work is to appraise reactive ruby red dye decolorization by bacterial strain isolated from the natural recourses. The activated sludge from sewage treatment plant from Solapur was collected to isolate dye decolorizing bacteria. The decolorizing isolate was screened by inoculating isolate in nutrient broth containing reactive ruby red dye at 100 mg/l concentration. Out of 11 isolates from sample, one isolate show prominent decolorization. Based on morphological and biochemical methods the isolate was identified as Pseudomonas spp. The isolated Pseudomonas spp has ability to decolorize the reactive ruby red more than 99% within 72 hours at 370C pH 6.7±0.2 with dye concentration of dye 100mg/L. The phytotoxicity effect of decolorized water on Triticum aestivum was studied by germination effect which showed increased percent germination indicates the decolorized sample was less toxic than original dye solution. The present organism can be used for the industrial application.
