The Influence of Business-IT Alignment Maturity and Agile Methodology on IT Project Success Under Conditions of Technological Turbulence

Abstract

This research created and empirically tested an IT project success model incorporating strategic alignment maturity and Agile methodologies under technological turbulence. It aimed to address high project failure rates and a research gap regarding the combined effect of alignment and agility. A multi-strand mixed-methods design used surveys from 72 project managers and interviews with 16 senior executives. Alignment maturity and Agile development significantly improved stakeholder satisfaction and perceived success, but not traditional efficiency. Maturity and Agile combined dampened the negative moderation of technological turbulence. This means project success must evolve beyond the “iron triangle” to focus on stakeholder value. Strategic alignment is the essential foundation; Agile adoption in isolation is insufficient for performance. The study guides leaders navigating digital transformation in volatile environments.
