Abstract

In higher education, digital media technology (virtual reality, augmented reality, online platforms) has transformed traditional teaching and boosted interactive teaching innovation. This study explored its use and effectiveness in universities, focusing on content optimization, interaction enhancement, and evaluation improvement. A one-semester experiment had two sophomore classes with 40 digital media majors in each class. The experimental group used digital media-integrated interactive teaching, and the control group used conventional methods (e.g., textbooks and lectures). Data came from questionnaires, exams, group projects, and online analytics. Results showed digital media enriched resources and engagement; the experimental group outperformed the control in learning interest (8.5/10 vs. 6.8/10), academic performance (88.5/100 vs. 79.2/100), teamwork, and autonomous learning (high vs. medium). Follow-up surveys revealed stronger knowledge retention (82.3/100 vs. 70.5/100) in the experimental group. Challenges included tech update costs, more teacher workload, and digital literacy gaps among rural freshmen. This study offers insights to advance digital media-enabled interactive teaching.
