The cost of financing a competitive military forces

Abstract

Professional armed forces, well endowed and capable of withstanding range increasingly extended of the risks and threats posed by the security environment, cannot be ensured without adequate resources. Although it seems paradoxical, the accession to NATO in 2004, he removed from the list of priorities defense - striking political objective has meant that investment in defense will become more difficult to justify publicly, conflicts president/premier of the period 2005 - 2008 have affected the acquisition programs, and economic crisis has forced virtually rethinking your priorities in the area of defense, so that, as regards financial aspect, the evolution of the Defense Ministry's budget when signing, by Romania of the treaty with the North Atlantic Alliance, has been declining up to the year 2012 when it reached 1.26 percent of the GDP.
