Abstract

The first two months of this year have been generous with forecasts for global economic growth in 2016 and 2017 provided by major international organizations and bodies. Compared to the forecasts published by the same institutions at the end of the last year, the current ones are more pessimistic, especially regarding the evolution of the global economy in 2016. In addition to a brief review of the content of these forecasts, our article aims to point out the main causes and risks that might negatively affect global growth. While these economic reports do not foresee a slowdown in world GDP growth, yet some prominent analysts do not exclude, at least for this year, a possible sliding of the world economy into a new phase of recession. The starting point of this recession appears to be also a financial crisis, whose onset is becoming clearer.
