The Transition Of The European Union To The Circular Economy. Factual Measures In 2015-2017

Abstract

The European companies are currently facing strong global competition to access to resources, so that not only their competitiveness, but that of whole EU is affected. To alleviate this situation, the European Union is in a transition from the linear economic model to the circular economy model, involving the active participation of each Member State, regions and the private sector.Our article summarizes the model of the circular economy to be achieved in the EU and analyses the economic and social benefits estimated by 2035, resulted from the impact of the circular economy. The article also includes an analysis of the 2015-2017 cycle, when following the adoption of the Circular Economy Action Plan, concrete steps have been taken to build the circular economy model through programs, measures and initiatives of the European Commission.
