The Current State Of Corruption Worldwide And In Europe. Correlations With The Economic Development

Abstract

Our paper presents an analysis of the current state of corruption worldwide and in Europe, revealing the comparative situation in the Member States of the European Union and the rank of each state in the global hierarchy of corruption. Our analysis of corruption is based on the "Corruption Perception Index 2016" compiled and quantified for the public sector from 176 countries and territories by the Transparency International Organization, based on informed opinions expressed by analysts, businessmen and experts from different countries in a survey published in January 2017. The analysis and correlations between corruption levels and economic development in each EU country led us to the conclusion that there is an inverse correlation between the two variables.
