Abstract

The article presents the global copper market evolution in 2011 and its prospects for 2012. The paper looks at the world production and consumption of refined copper mining and also at the evolution of quotes and stocks on the London Stock Exchange. In 2011, the global copper market encountered a large deficit (although reduced comparing with the previous year), amid slightly slower consumption growth towards production. During the year, quotations fell by over 20%. Though , the annual average was by 17% higher in 2011 compared with the previous year.. For 2012, forecasts indicate an increasing consumption, stimulated by a significant boost in demand in China (+6% compared to +3.4% worldwide)a country that concentrates approximately 42% of world consumption of refined copper, and a deficit in market supply that have a stimulating effect on prices.
