El Instituto de Economía y Finanzas, un mojón de 90 años

El texto analiza el proceso de institucionalización de la ciencia económica en Argentina, identificando hitos como la creación de la Cátedra de Economía en la UBA (siglo XIX), la figura de Alejandro Bunge, la fundación de la Asociación Argentina de Economía Política y la creación del Instituto de Economía y Finanzas (IEF) en la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC). Se destaca que la disciplina mutó desde modelos conceptuales hacia una formalización matemática sofisticada, a partir de figuras como Paul Samuelson. Esta tecnificación transformó al economista en un especialista profesional. Pese a la inestabilidad económica argentina, el Instituto ha permanecido como pilar de investigación, manteniendo su prestigio mediante el recambio generacional y el vínculo con el CONICET, sin perder la advertencia humanista de no "cosificar" al hombre con una mirada tecnocrática./ This article examines the institutionalization of economic science in Argentina by identifying key historical milestones, including the establishment of the Chair of Economics at the University of Buenos Aires (1820), the influential role of Alejandro Bunge, the founding of the Argentine Association of Political Economy, and the creation of the Institute of Economics and Finance (IEF) at the National University of Córdoba (UNC). Over time, the discipline transitioned from purely conceptual frameworks toward sophisticated mathematical formalization, a shift driven by figures such as Paul Samuelson that redefined the economist as a technical specialist. The narrative centers on the IEF, which originated in 1935 as a seminar and consolidated following the creation of the School of Economic Sciences at the UNC. The author highlights the 1962–1968 period as a qualitative leap in excellence under the leadership of Aldo Arnaudo and the strategic support of the Ford Foundation, illustrating how targeted investment fosters scientific capacity. Currently, after ninety years of history, the IEF confronts a contemporary academic landscape where the "calculating technician" often supersedes the analytical and critical thinker. Despite Argentina’s recurring economic instability, the Institute remains a pillar of research, sustaining its prestige through generational renewal and its ties with CONICET, while striving to retain its humanistic perspective.
