Sustaining competitive advantage in social entrepreneurship - a case study

Abstract

This is a study on sustainability of competitive advantage in social entrepreneurship in a developing country like India. To maintain competitive advantage, a social entrepreneur has to reduce his cost of operations while providing value propositions to all stake holders in the supply chain. By using technology, the entrepreneur can predict performance of his firm while meeting customer expectations. This makes the business model sustainable in the long term. This study, through primary study, analyses the needs of different stakeholders in a rural area in the state of Odisha, India. The study suggests a business model, where all the stakeholders are benefitted in the supply chain. The study also provides detailed ROI calculations for all the stakeholders in the value chain and also proposes a road map for implementing the model. The model can improve living conditions in rural areas and can be replicated at other states.
