Abstract

The main objective of this study is to investigate the determinants of the companies' environmental commitment in the French context. The authors conducted a survey on the case of 18 companies and used the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method. The results show that despite the important role of the regulation in the environmental commitment of companies, it remains a secondary determinant in comparison with customer satisfaction. The search for legitimacy seems to be fundamental for the companies' survival. The authors draw some business and academic implications.
