Abstract

For the holistic development of an industrial cluster, members are required to continually improve their performance. In manufacturing clusters, technique of lean manufacturing (LM) deems fit for improving the performance. This study covers implementation of LM techniques for performance improvement and sustainable growth of a cluster. Manesar Industry Welfare Association (MIWA) Cluster is chosen for the study and the techniques are implemented in its nine units. The techniques were finalised after identifying the pain areas of the individual units using the define-analyse-report-engage methodology. Five standard indices - inventory turnover ratio, cost of poor quality, labour productivity, capital productivity, and overall equipment effectiveness were used. Remarkable quantitative improvements validated through hypothesis testing, are seen in the indices.
