Entrepreneurial motivations: evidence from a developing region in India

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is increasingly playing a significant role in the Indian economy. It becomes an important driver for economic growth and development of productivity in the nation due to its ability to generate employment, promote innovation, produce competition and create economic wealth. The contribution of entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to the economy has attracted the attention of researchers and policy makers in both developed and transition economies. The main objective of the study is to identify the factors of entrepreneurial motivation in Chhattisgarh region in India. Using a convenience sampling technique, data were gathered through a self-monitored questionnaire survey. Factor analysis was applied to find the factors associated with entrepreneurial motivation. Based on the factor analysis, this study has identified seven factors of entrepreneurial motivation in Chhattisgarh and has conducted reliability analyses on the identified factors.
