A framework for nurse scheduling problems based on prevention of bad-relationships

Abstract

The scheduling problem is one of the most studied and well-known problems in mathematics. The scheduling problem is used to allocate resources in the most efficient way. In any hospital, scheduling the nurses' timetable has a big impact on their performance. Nurse scheduling is a complex problem that requires careful consideration of various factors, including skill heterogeneity, unfavourable relationship factors, and expenses. This research proposes a framework for nurse scheduling that uses integer linear programming (ILP) to minimise unfavourable relationship factors and reduce expenses. The framework is validated using a few well-known benchmark scenarios, and the results show that the proposed model performs as expected and will be helpful for management.
