Optimal design of reverse logistics network on e-waste in Shanghai

Abstract

According to official statistics, the average growth rate of electronic waste (e-waste) in Shanghai will reach 13.16% from 2006 to 2015, and its peak will come after 2010, the situation is getting more and more worrisome. This paper addresses the design of a multi-echelon reverse logistics network for collecting and processing e-waste which involves locating collection spots and disposal stations and determining the best strategy for allocating the waste sources to collection spots and delivers the wastes from collection spots to disposal stations. A multi-objective integer programming model is constructed. The goal is to select the optimum numbers, locations and capacities of collection spots and disposal stations to open so that all waste sources are satisfied at minimum total operator costs of the reverse logistics network and at minimum disutility to people. Finally Shanghai Xuhui District is taken as the sample to prove the efficiency and feasibility of the model.
