Abstract

The 21st century will bring forth a change in the dominant form of industrial competition. Supply chains will replace individual firms as the economic engine for creating value, and will compete among themselves for the loyalty of end users. This paper examines the literature regarding manufacturing and supply chain strategy formulation processes, and presents an argument for linking these processes to achieve a competitive advantage. In addition, based upon an analysis of the strategy formulation literature, the paper introduces a conceptual framework for accomplishing the aforementioned linkages.
