Effect of process parameters on the tensile properties of LENS deposited Co-Cr-Mo alloy

Abstract

Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENSTM) is attracting the attention of the researchers because of its ease in operation and wide variety of material acceptance. Tensile specimens of Co-Cr-Mo alloy are prepared using LENS process as per JIS standards. Laser power, powder feed rate and laser scan speed are the process parameters used. All the specimen samples are tested for their tensile strength. The samples fabricated with high laser power, low powder feed rate and high laser scan speed have exhibited highest tensile strengths (both yield strength and ultimate tensile strength) among the samples tested. The tensile properties of the LENS deposited samples are compatible with or superior than the as-cast Co-Cr-Mo alloy samples.
