Abstract

Electrochemical machining (ECM) is widely used for machining variety of components used in aerospace, automotive and defence applications. The study focuses on the development of hybrid technology in ultrasonically assisted pulse electrochemical machining (USA-PECM) using rotating tool. This paper presents experimental investigation of USA-PECM using parameters such as voltage, pulse on-time, ultrasonic pulse on-time and duty cycle. The corresponding responses are material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness (Ra). Taguchi's orthogonal array L9 was used to study the effect of independent process parameters. The results show USA-PECM with rotating electrode has enhanced MRR and surface finish by 17.77% and 38.13% respectively. The experimental results were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) method and plotting various graphs.
