Abstract

For the purpose of building a PLM oriented mechanical product information model, this paper proposes a concept of Product Lifecycle Gene (PLG) by referring to the concept of biologic gene, and discusses the component of PLG. A Product DNA (PDNA) is established using Function Surface (FS) as the product base. A Product Lifecycle Genetic Model (PLGM) is proposed as the organic integration of product information at each stage during product lifecycle, which can be expanded and mapped into different models for different demands. The modelling method is verified by a specific example and proves suitable and helpful for PLM.
