Required knowledge for supply chain management process: sharing and transferring in the scope of supply chain integration

Abstract

Under growing globalisation, supply chain integration (SCI) is raised as a vital contributor for achieving an effective supply chain management. The evolution of SCI is currently going beyond the information sharing level towards knowledge sharing (KS) and knowledge transfer (KT). However, a clear definition of KS and KT remains limited to study, especially from the practical viewpoints of experts involved in the supply chain management (SCM) process. Moreover, very little previous research has investigated the required knowledge for the eight SCM processes that should be shared or transferred within the scope of external integration. Therefore, this study provides insight to fulfill these gaps by applying in-depth interviews, checklist questionnaires, and non-parametric analysis focused on Thailand's electrical and electronics industry. The findings reveal the key differences between KS and KT including the required knowledge for the eight SCM processes. The findings provide benefits for enhancing industrial performance throughout the supply chain.
