Abstract

The objective of this paper is to identify the effect of supplier development activities (SDAs) on performance outcomes (POs) from the buyer's perspective. The proposed structural models are tested using structural equation modelling (SEM) to check the impact of supplier development activities on performance outcomes. Results indicate different SDAs have a different effect on various dimensions of POs. Specifically, knowledge and information sharing, along with the involvement of buyers in supplier activities, seem to be the two most important factors to enhance the buyer-supplier relationship improvement (BSRI). This study reveal the major factors having a substantial impact on buyer's competitive advantage improvement, BSRI and suppliers on supplier performance improvement. SEM in conjunction with three primary categories, namely suppliers on supplier performance improvement, BSRI, and buyer's competitive advantage improvement, was used for the first time to assess the function of each category of SDAs.
