Abstract

This paper aims to examine and conceptualise the greening practices of livestock supply chains. Based on a qualitative approach over a purposive sample in Vietnam, we explore the current green supply chain practices in the livestock industry and provide an understanding of the challenges companies face. Subsequently, data is analysed using qualitative content analysis before an integrated framework is proposed to conceptualise and provide guidelines for companies in the livestock industry when considering adopting green practices. The framework is developed from both supply chain and organisational approaches. The former includes all stages in the livestock supply chains from sourcing to consumption, while the latter highlights three critical prerequisites for successful implementation: resource recovery, efficiency improvement, and environmental handling. Implications for managers and policymakers are presented accordingly to provide suggestions on the focused area for improvements.
