Abstract

Dairy manufacturing is one of the oldest sectors that involve the production of liquid milk, ghee, curd, butter, etc. The sector has witnessed transformation with ages by serving people with many dairy-based products as needed. Dairy farmers have been resilient in handling the pandemic with the support of the government through societies. Yet, risks could be handled better by redefining the traditional production process and attracting more farmers to join societies. The present study is structured into three phases. The first phase assesses the economic impact of the pandemic on the Indian dairy sector in terms of gross production value. The second phase involves a case study conducted on a dairy manufacturing unit using a simulation approach. The final phase involves an empirical study with dairy farmers to understand various aspects of dairy farming. Recommendations based on supply chain and implications have been provided to improve the sustainability of the sector.
