Abstract

This paper was undertaken to examine mobile internet adoption and diffusion in Jordan. Existing studies about mobile internet are generally confined to a few highly developed industrialised nations of the world: not much is known about the adoption of mobile internet in developing countries such as Jordan. This research therefore builds theory in a relatively unexplored area. The results of this study provide a sound basis for strategic planning and information system development in Jordan with regard to consumer need. The findings have important implications for service providers and industry practitioners to encourage faster and more efficient adoption and for researchers who wish to use this study as a foundation for future research. The study was able to demonstrate that Jordanian users surveyed in this study showed high degrees of affinity for new information and communication technology. This unexpected outcome may be attributed to the intensity with which the Jordanian royal family, since the ascension of King Abdullah II, has recently promoted ICT as a national economic initiative in the nation.
