Material characterisation of Cu-graphite-flyash and Cu-lead-flyash metal matrix composites

Abstract

In this present work, copper matrix composites were fabricated and characterised with the aid of powder metallurgy technique. Copper-graphite-flyash and copper-lead-flyash composites were prepared by conventional powder metallurgy technique using single action die compaction. Compositions are made with five weight percentage of lead and graphite powdered particles are reinforced separately in copper matrix along with 5, 10 and 15 weight percent flyash fabricated under various compacting pressures. Compacting properties of these composites were characterised. The results were analysed and found that composites reinforced 10 wt% of flyash in 5 wt% of graphite or 5% lead and exhibits compacting properties in comparison with pure copper.
