Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to contribute to sustainable innovation development by shedding light on the factors influencing the fulfilment of adopters' needs and values. Two hundred and fifty farms were surveyed with respect to three livestock innovations (evaporation system housing or ESH, the compatibility aspect of adopting alternative protein source from by-products or APS and artificial insemination or AI). 'Good Enough' represents a characteristic performing well and needing to maintain the present level of performance. 'Could do better' implies the message that this livestock innovation characteristic falls short of the expectations of the farmers and needs to be improved. 'Good enough' is found in trialability of ESH, compatibility of APS, as well as compatibility, complexity, trialability and risk of AI. 'Could do better' is found in complexity of ESH, and relative advantage of both APS and AI.
