Abstract

Organisational culture is identified as one of the significant factor that could improve enterprise resource planning (ERP) success. In spite of that, very limited studies have been conducted to examine the effects of organisational culture on ERP post-implementation success. This study attempts to explore how organisational culture affects the success of ERP systems in the post-implementation stage. A case study method was employed by interviewing 17 ERP users at all levels in four large firms in China. The case analysis suggests that group culture and hierarchical culture influence ERP post-implementation success through horizontal coordination and vertical coordination respectively, while external-oriented culture influences ERP post-implementation success through organisational learning of ERP systems. The research findings provide guidelines for the firms on how to improve ERP post-implementation success from the organisational culture perspective in order to achieve the business benefits of ERP systems.
