Learning to live online: acceptance and usage of the internet as an innovative medium

Abstract

This article focuses on how perceived internet utility and internet usage motivation are related to levels of involvement in internet usage. Questions concerning the digital divide controversy also are explored. The results show that perceived internet utility is positively related to internet involvement. There were no significant gender differences in most of the measures. The results indicate that when people are led to believe in the utility of the internet as a learning tool, they will become more involved. Innovative ways to introduce this new medium to all populations for effective learning need to be developed.
