Investigating the influencing factors for the acceptance of artificial intelligence in the manufacturing industry using DEMATEL approach

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI), the industrial sector has a transformative opportunity to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enable data-driven decision-making throughout production processes. However, a variety of obstacles have prevented AI from being widely used in manufacturing, leading to unequal application. This study investigates the key factors impacting the manufacturing sector's adoption of AI and examines the complex interrelationships between them using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique. The study intends to uncover and understand the primary factors influencing AI adoption in manufacturing, as well as provide helpful guidance for industry stakeholders wishing to integrate AI technology into their operations. Cost and return on investment considerations were determined to have the second-largest impact, behind technological infrastructure. It was found that integration with current systems had the least effect.
