SME sector of Punjab (India): from renaissance to recession

Abstract

This paper dwells with the negative and positive impact of an ongoing economical recession on small and medium scale industries in the state of Punjab. It not only explores the post-independence industrial development but also uncovers the present industrial potential in the state by performing SWOT analysis. It makes available the necessary information related to the current running 'Industrial Development Centers', 'Government Quality Marking Centers', financial resources, etc. in Punjab. This paper discusses the real problems being faced by entrepreneurs and it also gives glimpses of upcoming opportunities in SME sector to maintain the motivation of industrialists. This paper attempts to caution future investors in Punjab and take appropriate preventive measures to neutralise the future threats to SMEs in this region. The primary objective of the study is to attract the entrepreneurs for higher investments in small and medium scale industries of this resource rich state.
