Abstract

Keeping pace with the real-time developments in the field of research, this paper attempts to scientifically examine the research evolution in the domain of microfinance in relation to women-empowerment. The study focuses on the research trends and thematic breakthrough by conducting bibliometric analysis of the field from time-period of 1996-2022. Using 267 'article-type' research studies extracted from Scopus database, this study has carried out step-wise bibliometric analysis including citation-analysis, three-field plot, word-cloud and thematic mapping. The novelty contribution of this study is its comparative approach wherein the research conducted in India is compared to that of the rest of the world in order to understand the gaps existing in the Indian research and hence highlight the scope of future research in the field of micro-finance and women empowerment. Another methodological contribution of this study is using of preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA).
