Abstract

COVID-19 has transformed the working of the world. It has also laid bare the inherent disorders in our economy. The extent of deaths and suffering during this pandemic brings to our minds the writings and methods of M.K. Gandhi. What lessons could the Gandhian ethos have for us during these pandemic times? And, what relevance could Gandhian thoughts have in these times? This study intends to seek answer to some of these questions. In the pursuit to establish the striking relevance of Gandhian thoughts in present times, four generalised arguments are offered that are followed by four specific socio-economic arguments summed up in the acronym RISE: rural economy, inclusive approach, sustainable development and ethics. Through these arguments Gandhian lessons are revisited.
