Abstract

This paper proposes development of model and algorithm of hybrid power system (HPS) connected to single directional grid to determine optimal HPS. Photovoltaic (PV) module and windmill are taken as renewable energy sources (RES) of HPS. Solar lead acid battery is taken as storage device. Hybrid inverter with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers is used to interlink the RES, load, battery and grid. One year hourly wind speed, solar irradiation and temperature data are the inputs to the system. The optimal HPS is determined with least energy cost satisfying the constraints. Analysis is carried out in individual RES also. Comparison of optimal energy cost with conventional energy cost is done to evaluate the economic impact of the systems. The results show that the optimal systems are financially viable for both combined and individual RES and most feasible system is HPS.
