Abstract

The importance of clean technology adoption for sustainable development is widely accepted. However, the extent of diffusion is still lower than expected. A review of literature from 1994 to 2014 was done to find out the determinants of clean technology adoption. These determinants can be categorised into internal and external environment from strategy formulation perspective. Organisations can gain competitive advantage by adopting clean technology. Organisational innovation is a response to environmental change. Hence, it is important to study perception of managers about external environment. A critical review of literature, classification of clean technologies, research trends and prospective areas for research are discussed in this paper.
