Abstract

The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of different concentrations of wastewaters treated with Pseudomonas putida on various growth indices of durum wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seeds. Significant decreases in terms of root and leaf growth were observed. The phytotoxicity of textile wastewater was more pronounced on initiation times, germination percentages, root and leaf growth, and fresh seed weights than those of the two other effluents. Industrial wastewaters were also noted to strongly induce lipid peroxidation in the roots and leaves. Overall, the results indicated that phytotoxicity was completely removed from the industrial wastewaters after aerobic treatment with P. putida.
