Quality of work life and organisation citizenship behaviour: mediating effects of organisational commitment among employees of information technology entrepreneurs

Abstract

This study highlights the important factors of quality of work life (QWL) and analyses its relationship with organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB), focusing on the mediating role of organisational commitment (OC). A well-structured online questionnaire gathered 376 responses from the employees from the IT sector entrepreneurs. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed, revealing significant insights. The findings indicate that improved QWL positively influences OC, which, in turn, fosters OCB among employees. Specifically, aspects such as supervisors' support, freedom from work related stress, relationship with colleagues and job satisfaction emerged as crucial QWL components that enhance employees' sense of loyalty and commitment to their organisation. The study contributes to managerial practice by highlighting the importance of investing in QWL initiatives to cultivate a committed and proactive workforce. Academically, it bridges the gap in literature by empirically validating the mediating effect of OC in the QWL-OCB relationship, offering a comprehensive model for future research.
