Abstract

Congestion control is one of the major issues in the communication networks. The approaches toward the congestion control are end-to-end congestion control and network assisted congested control. The Explicit Congestion Control Protocol uses ECN bits for feedback to control congestion. But it uses multiple bits in the header which faces certain obstacles in implementation. The proposed optimised congestion control protocol (OCCP) uses only two ECN bits for giving feedback about congestion. The reduced usage of ECN bits in the proposed system makes it easy to implement. The performance is also better than the existing one. The proposed system is implemented in a network simulator. For the implementation of the proposed system, NS2 discrete event simulation tool is used and experimented with a variety of parameter settings.
