Abstract

Innovation is considered one of the most important strategic and competitive elements of a successful biopharmaceutical firm. The small- and medium-sized firms need to participate in innovation networks in order to attract or outsource the necessary resources for the successful development of new projects. The complexity of the product development cycle forces the firm to participate in multiple networks, fulfilling various roles. This study investigates the structure and the dynamics of innovation networks in the UK biopharmaceutical sector, analysing the networking approach and the roles adopted by biopharmaceutical SMEs.
