Abstract

Firms, particularly technology-based firms, are faced with the decision to adopt an innovation already in use or to invest their resources to develop innovations and gain competitive advantage. Discovering an innovation can be a high cost endeavour whereas waiting too late in the adoption cycle can put a firm at a competitive disadvantage in its market niche. This research note presents the factors that firms need to consider in developing their policy of innovation adoption or innovation creation.
