Abstract

Digital transformation, a phenomenon that adopts digital technologies to change how organisations operate and deliver value to customers, is receiving increasing prominence recently. The phenomenon drives its importance from the proliferation of digital technologies in organisations, and hence can also be viewed from the context of (digital) technology management scenario in organisations. Making this linkage allows us to investigate digital transformation from the perspective of information systems (IS) and organisations. This manuscript reviews the literature concerning digital transformation based on a conceptual model adopting the perspective of IS and organisations. The findings based on 85 articles constituting the review highlight various facets describing the inputs, transformation process, and outputs in the context of digital transformation. In continuation, we outline possible areas of future explorations and link them into a digital transformation process exploration framework towards facilitating future theoretical work.
