Abstract

In 2008, a serious financial crisis resulted in a severe contraction in consumption in the capitalist economies. The crisis forced industries from diverse sectors to drastically review production and sales plans. The chemical sector had to reorganise to accommodate the difficult circumstances. In addition to possessing a business intelligence architecture, a company must make the maximum use of its assets. The dissemination of best practices in the use of a business intelligence architecture was highly important during the crisis to help standardise processes, improve information quality and focus staff on the analysis of information as opposed to its mere generation. This study aims to demonstrate how the application of best practices to encourage the use of a business intelligence architecture significantly benefited a Brazilian chemical company during the 2008-2009 world economic crisis.
