Usage and impact of Information Technology on the SSIs performance of Jammu region, North India

Abstract

The study addresses extent of Information Technology (IT) usage and its impact on performance of small-scale industries operating in Jammu Region, North India using primary information from 144 IT-savvy Small-Scale Industries (SSIs). Study results identify two distinct IT adoption stages. The firms in first stage of IT applications focus on office automation and e-mails for data processing and website usage for promotional purposes. The second-stage firms, along with first stage e-applications, use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) softwares and websites specifically to communicate with business trading partners and customers. The advanced e-commerce softwares like ERP and EDI, e-applications for third stage firms are not found in Jammu region.
