The impact of communication and ethnicity on entrepreneurial success and education

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between culture, communication and entrepreneurial successes. Specifically it examines cultural differences relating to fear of failure for starting up businesses. It has been found that European New Zealanders and Maoris have indicated a much lower level of fear of failure whereas the Chinese, Indians and Pacific Islander entrepreneurs have shown a higher level of fear. To explore this issue, follow-up interviews were conducted with the Chinese, Indian and Pacific Islanders to identify the causes leading to their fear and uncertainties. The study has implications for promoting entrepreneurial education for the ethnic groups.
