Abstract

Tourism is an important economic driver for the island nation of Jamaica. Yet, accompanying the benefits derived from tourism are concerns regarding the negative impacts that come with the type of mass tourism that dominates the Jamaican tourism industry. This paper, in the form of an essay by a Jamaican 'Observer' accompanied by comments by an American tourism academic, explores some of the issues being faced by Jamaican tourism.
