An overview of the relationship between the newly emerging field of International Entrepreneurship and the older fields of entrepreneurship and International Business

Abstract

As a field of scholarly inquiry, International Entrepreneurship (IE) is very young and International Business (IB) is much older. IB's theoretical and practical traditions are well established, while those of IE's are still emerging. Although the maturity of IB has assisted the early development of IE, its concepts, principles and theories can potentially constrain the free evolution of IE's development. Any older field has a historical legacy and the routine practices of an emerging field may at times be novel, innovative, radical and even contradictory to established theoretical traditions, and the IB-IE relationship is not expected to be very different.
