Internationalisation of film production: a historical review of movie making in Taiwan and Hong Kong

Abstract

Three major approaches to explaining the motivations behind international film production are reviewed in this study: the creative/economic approach, the international business approach, and the historical approach. In addition, the case of international joint film productions between Taiwan and Hong Kong is examined to show that the process of internationalisation in the film industry is more complicated than the existing literature indicates. This suggests international film projects with different attributions may have different implications for film industry development in both home and host countries.
