Abstract

This paper analyses the organisational practices of environmental and social responsibility in companies that adopt the Brazilian award for performance excellence, i.e., the National Quality Award (PNQ). The award is the highest form of recognition of excellence in business management in the country. Secondary data published by the National Quality Foundation were gathered in order to identify and analyse whether the companies' organisational practices are truly exemplary. The data collected resulted in 72 organisational practices of social responsibility and environmental concern performed by 51 companies from 17 different industrial sectors. Most of the organisational practices are in fact exemplary, as is expected for companies in the journey toward performance excellence.
