Barriers and drivers influencing sustainable attitudes in the pharmacy sector: a systematic literature review

Abstract

This paper aims to identify the main barriers and drivers that influence sustainable attitudes in the pharmaceutical sector through a systematic literature review. Due to the high risk potential in the sustainability generated by the sector, addressing this topic becomes essential both to measure and discuss the impact generated by the disposal of medicines on the environment, the economic impact on companies that need to adapt to standards and finally, how companies can develop the community they are part of, whether in education regarding the conscious disposal process itself. The study made it possible to highlight the need to develop internal policies for companies in the sector to mitigate problems linked to poor sustainability management with a view to economic, social and environmental development. From this study, companies can prioritise barriers and drivers for improving sustainability.
